So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the man who does not condemn himself by what he approves. But the man who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.

hm. how do you interpret this?

Interesting. This text makes me wonder where our "consciousness" comes from. Because if I should do something and feel no sense of guilt or wrong-doing, then of course no doubts or negative thoughts will come into my mind. However, if my conscious forces me to consider whether or not something is right, and I do it anyway, then I can see where I have sinned. I think we assume our conscious is always God, but I don't think it is. I think sometimes it is God. I also think sometimes it is the Devil; sometimes its our parents; sometimes its our environment. However, if I am a Christian than I can't rely solely on whether or not I doubt something. I have to rely on friends and family; my hedge of protection; my sizygus (greek word I think). We also have to rely on the Bible. From the Bible we know this...if our actions cause someone else to doubt God, then it can not be right. If our actions cause us to grant higher importance to something/someone other than God, it can not be right. All of our actions should somehow, someway, lead us and others closer to Truth.

This was my initial reaction to the text.

Is this Paul talking about eating sacrificial meat, if not it sounds an awful lot like it?
